Before even starting I know whats already on your mind… What the hell is Balut most of you would ask? Antes mesmo de começar eu sei qual é já em sua mente ... Que diabos é Balut mais de você pediria? In fact it's simply a fertilized duck egg with an almost fully matured embryo inside that's served boiled alive and eaten in its shell. Na verdade, é simplesmente um ovo de pato fecundado com um embrião quase totalmente amadurecido dentro do que é servido cozido e comido vivo em seu escudo. They are considered delicacies in South East Asia and particularly the Philippines, Vietnam & Cambodia. Eles são considerados iguarias no Sudeste Asiático e, em especial as Filipinas, Vietnã e Camboja.
Now for an intro to the story… After a long & strenuous previous night out partying that started at the All-you-can-drink Conway's bar of the luxurious Shangri-la Hotel in Makati & eventually ending in the Ermita Cowboy Grill somewhere estimated around 6:30 AM. Given this I would never have imagined that I would be in the best mindset to attempt eating balut that night. Dado isso, eu nunca teria imaginado que eu seria a melhor atitude para tentar balut comer naquela noite. But as the barbecue went on well into the evening and as our fourth case of San Miguel was under way a new sense of strength embodied us. Eventually the persistent hangover was but a distant memory and everyone's systems were fully operational again. After a few explanations from a local on the techniques of eating balut and what I was going to endure I figured adding as much salt as possible would be a good idea. At this point my body told me something wasn't right with ingesting this food & I started heaving and gagging a bit.. Neste momento o meu corpo me disse algo não estava bem com a ingestão deste alimento e comecei a arfar e amordaçar um pouco ..
Glad to the virtues of San Miguel I was able to chug down those nasty pieces I could feel refusing entry. Fico feliz com as virtudes de São Miguel estava chug abaixo as peças desagradáveis eu podia sentir a recusa de entrada.

Hahahahaha ... quando eu vi a sua reação na nossa delicadeza, eu ri muito em você! it's might be because your not from my Country. ela pode ser porque o seu não do meu país. I am a Filipina, and now presently living in Canada. Eu sou uma filipina, e agora atualmente vivendo no Canadá. I loved Balut so much, I missed to eat fresh balut. Eu amei tanto Balut, eu perdi a comer balut fresco. I can eat 6 balut at a time or more, I really enjoyed having it and I have my friend (Canadian, who's really felt bad everytime we discuss about that crazy and wierd delicacy) hahahaha….. Eu posso comer 6 balut de uma vez ou mais, eu realmente gostei de ter e eu tenho o meu amigo (canadense, que realmente se sentia mal toda vez que discutimos sobre essa louca e estranha delicadeza) hahahaha ... ..

I'm from Cebu City, Phil., living in Canada, I've never liked this delicacy, no offense. Eu sou do Rio de Janeiro, Phil., Que vivem no Canadá, eu nunca gostei desta iguaria, sem ofensa. There are other good tasting delicacies in the Philippines. Existem outras iguarias boa degustação nas Filipinas.

Eu nunca tive a coragem de comer balut. When my gf eats it I insist that she wait 30 minutes before kissing me. Quando o meu gf come insisto que ela aguarde 30 minutos antes de me beijar. I stopped to buy it for her and the vendor looked at me incredulously and asked if I knew what it is. Parei para comprar para ela e para o vendedor me olhou incrédulo e perguntou se eu sabia o que é. I saw the look in her eyes and said “of course.” She replied, “but… you're a foreigner!” Eu vi o olhar em seus olhos e disse: "é claro." Ela respondeu, "mas ... você é um estrangeiro!"
dear “Jan” – yea, I love how your Filipina pride comes out about something thats disgustingly unsafe to eat. Muitos turistas goto cada mês, o hospital para tentar essa iguaria chamada. Just because treemonkeys can eat crap does not make it a delicacy. I notice how you 'love' your country soooo much, that you left the motherland completely to live, marry, and work in a country whose language you can barely understand.
