My 1st ever stop in Asia starting with a five day exploration of the city of Manila… 1 وقف بلدي من أي وقت مضى في آسيا بدءا من التنقيب عن خمسة ايام من مدينة مانيلا...
It sure is different than anything else that I've experienced before but if you're like me and only seen North America & Western Europe it's quite understandable that you'll be in for a surprise. ومن المؤكد مختلفة من أي شيء آخر ان كنت من ذوي الخبرة من قبل ولكن اذا كنت مثلي ، وينظر فقط في أمريكا الشمالية وأوروبا الغربية انه من المفهوم تماما أن عليك أن تكون في لمفاجأة. At around 16 million inhabitant in the day time and countless undocumented residents Manila is the biggest city of South-East Asia and actually فى حوالى 16 مليون نسمة في الوقت اليوم ، وعدد لا يحصى من السكان لا يحملون وثائق مانيلا هي اكبر مدينة في جنوب شرق آسيا والواقع ranks 19 الصف 19 one the list of the world's most populous metropolitan areas. واحدة قائمة المناطق الحضرية في العالم من حيث عدد السكان. So it's not a small place to start off in Asia but the first thing that yo notice you as you get out is the boiling heat! حتى انها ليست مكانا صغيرا لتبدأ في آسيا ولكن أول ما يو إشعار لكم وأنتم في الخروج من حرارة الغليان! Especially when arriving from a very chilly October Paris morning the day before as I embarked onto this journey… وخصوصا عندما قادمة من باريس صباح بارد جدا أكتوبر / تشرين الأول قبل يوم وأنا بدأت على هذه الرحلة...
Then the airport itself. ثم المطار نفسه. Arrivals are sealed off from any visitors by the police. ومختومة من وصول أي من الزوار من قبل الشرطة. My flight was 30 minutes early and none was there to pick me up as planned. رحلتي كانت 30 دقيقة في وقت مبكر وليس هناك لاصطحابي كما كان مقررا. To make things worst my cell phone didn't work in the Philippines and after waiting waiting a while a cop noticed me and asked me if I needed help. لجعل الأمور أسوأ هاتفي المحمول لم يعمل في الفلبين وبعد انتظار في انتظار بعض الوقت لاحظ شرطي بي وسألني اذا كنت بحاجة الى مساعدة. He was kind enough to have one of them keep my luggage while he took me to a وكان نوع ما يكفي ليكون واحد منهم إبقاء حقيبتي بينما هو أخذني إلى sari-sari ساري الساري and help me buy and get my a new local SIM card activated & working on my cell. ومساعدتي في شراء والحصول على بلدي جديد بطاقة المحلية والعمل على تفعيلها زنزانتي. How nice of him I though taking all that time to help me get things done but of course after that he was quite adamant about wanting a tip. كيف لطيفة من له إنني على الرغم من اتخاذ كل هذا الوقت لمساعدتي في انجاز الامور ولكن بالطبع بعد أن كان يصر تماما عن الرغبة في معلومات سرية. Estimations put the figure of their income as 10% of their official salary & 90% of bribes and other extras. وضع تقديرات هذا الرقم من دخلها نحو 10 ٪ من راتبهم رسمية & 90 ٪ من الرشاوى واشياء أخرى. This is the one of the few downsides of the Philippines but hey don't get me wrong in their vast majority it is hard to find people as hospitable and nice as the Filipinos. هذه هي واحدة من سلبيات قليلة من الفلبين ولكن مهلا لا تفهموني خطأ في أغلبيتهم الساحقة من الصعب العثور على شخص لطيف ومضياف ووالفلبينيين. Besides two or three of these sorts of encounters with the police and a few cab drivers that refuse to put on meters there's been nothing but kindness. وبالاضافة الى اثنين أو ثلاثة من هذا النوع من المواجهة مع الشرطة وسائقي سيارات الأجرة القليلة التي ترفض وضع على متر كان هناك شيء ولكن لطف.
Also be prepared with the idea of seeing guns everywhere as armed security guards are in front of virtually any restaurant, shop, bar, bank, gas station, etc. Further more you will be frisked & your bags checked whenever entering a mall. أيضا تكون على استعداد مع فكرة رؤية المدافع في كل مكان في حين كان حراس أمن مسلحين في مطعم أمام أي تقريبا ، ومتجر ، وبار ، والبنوك ، محطة الغاز ، وما إلى ذلك أكثر وعلاوة على ذلك سوف يكون تفتيشه وفحص الحقائب الخاصة بك كلما دخول مجمع للتسوق.

Anyways to get back to my arrival story… Two hundred pesos lighter I was able to reach Leif on his cell who was stuck in a more than usual heavy traffic and had been for on his way for about 2 hours already. على أي حال العودة إلى قصة وصولي... مائتان أخف بيزو كنت قادرا على الوصول ليف في زنزانته الذي كان عالقا في أكثر من المعتاد حركة المرور الكثيفة وكان في طريقه لحوالي 2 ساعة بالفعل. We eventually took a break and went for some food in the middle of that as we weren't getting anywhere and the heat and pollution was slowly wearing us down. ونحن في نهاية المطاف كسر وذهب لبعض المواد الغذائية في منتصف ذلك كما كنا لا تحصل في أي مكان والحرارة والتلوث كان يرتدي ببطء لنا باستمرار.
The other thing to get used to in Manila is the way of driving where red lights are considered as suggestions and lanes there for mere decoration. للحصول على استخدامها والشيء الآخر لفي مانيلا هو السبيل للقيادة حيث تعتبر الحمراء والاقتراحات وهناك ممرات للزينة فقط. I was surprised to see my Norwegian friend take the wheel sometimes and master quite well the whole driving concept of the Philippines. فوجئت لرؤية صديقي النرويجي اتخاذ عجلة أحيانا بشكل جيد واتقان كل مفهوم القيادة في الفلبين.
Finally arriving at the Camelot hotel of Quezon City (one of the sixteen cities that compose the Municipality of Manila) and well greeted by the staff. واخيرا يصلون في فندق كاميلوت مدينة كويزون (واحدة من المدن التي تشكل 16 بلدية مانيلا) ، واستقبل بشكل جيد من قبل الموظفين. My 10% rebate for being a friend of 'Sir Leif' was effective immediately. بلدي خصم 10 ٪ لكونه صديق 'سيدي ليف' سارية على الفور. The good thing about the Camelot is it's Dungeon bar downstairs that has some excellent live music. الشيء الجيد حول كاميلوت هو انه الطابق السفلي شريط الزنزانة التي يعيش بعض الموسيقى الممتازة. Shangri-La hotel and its bar with all u can drink beer/cocktail/wine for 500 pesos (7euros) from 5 to 9pm (very pricey by Filipino standards) يمكن شانغريلا الفندقية وشريط مع كل ش شرب البيرة / كوكتيل / نبيذ ل 500 بيزو (7 €) في الفترة من 5 إلى 9:00 (الثمن للغاية من جانب الفلبينية المعايير)
Not a bad looking is it the Shangri-La Hotel Makati (prices for rooms start at about 12 times what I paid at my hotel) ليست سيئة يبحث هل هو فندق شانغريلا ماكاتى (أسعار الغرف تبدأ من 12 مرة عما دفعت في فندقي)
After a first night in the center of Manila we headed for a more relaxed evening in the Marikina valley which is on the outskirts of Manila بعد ليلة الأول في وسط مانيلا متجها نحو المساء أكثر استرخاء في وادي Marikina التي تقع على مشارف مانيلا

Back in our hotel with Leif's friend who plays in a band downstairs our hotel at the dungeon bar that has some awesome music. مرة أخرى في الفندق مع صديق ليف والذي يلعب في الطابق السفلي الفرقة فنادقنا في شريط زنزانة أن لديه بعض الموسيقى رهيبة.
I was extremely surprised with the quality of the bands that played in Manila. وفوجئت للغاية من نوعية الفرق التي لعبت في مانيلا. Actually of all the Philippines.. في الواقع من الفلبين جميع... Awesome rock cover bands.Reminds me the good old 80′s ( I know I'm getting old تغطية رهيبة صخرة bands.Reminds لي حسن البالغ من العمر 80 (وأنا أعلم أنني أتلقى القديمة 
) where is was all about live music and not some lame boom-boom/DJ music like its mostly all over now. و) حيث هو كل شيء عن الموسيقى الحية ، وليس بعض الموسيقى boom-boom/DJ عرجاء مثل في الغالب في جميع أنحاء الآن.
The famous Jeepneys of the Manila ! وJeepneys شهرة من مانيلا! The local public transportation buses. المحلية حافلات النقل العام. A modified longer version of the world war II American military jeep with lots of flashy colors added. وأضاف تعد نسخة معدلة من سيارة الجيب الحرب العالمية الثانية العسكرية الأمريكية مع الكثير من ألوان براقة. Each has its own specific name on the front and the routes they take is written on the sides. لكل منها اسم الخاصة به على الجبهة وطرق التي يسلكونها هو مكتوب على الجانبين. So just hail one as it passes by to hop on the 12 pesos fare shouldn't ruin too much your budget. واحد فقط حتى البرد كما يمر بها لقفز على أسعار تذاكر السفر 12 بيزو لا ينبغي أن تدمر الكثير من ميزانيتك. 
Another cheap alternative (15-20 pesos) to the Jeepney is the Filipino tricycle which is simply is a motorcycle with a sidecar. وثمة بديل آخر رخيصة (15-20 بيزو) إلى الجيب هو دراجة ثلاثية العجلات الفلبينية التي هي مجرد دراجة نارية مع السيارة المسحوبة.

The staff from the hotel bar who invited us for an afternoon BBQ at their home that went on into the evening… I got to say its hard to find people as hospitable and nice as the Filipinos. الموظفين من شريط الفندق الذي دعانا لشواء بعد ظهر اليوم في وطنهم الذي ذهب في المساء... وصلت الى القول من الصعب العثور على شخص لطيف ومضياف ووالفلبينيين. The hobbit house is a Lord of the ring themed bar on Mabini Street. بيت القزم هو رب حلقة تحت عنوان بار في شارع Mabini. What makes this bar special is that all the staff & even the owner that runs the joint are midgets which makes its theme of a fantasy hobbit tavern even more real… A must see. ما يجعل هذا شريط خاص هو أن جميع الموظفين وحتى مالك الذي يدير وأقزام مشتركة مما يجعل موضوعه من حانة القزم حتى الخيال أكثر واقعية... ويجب أن نرى. Added to that there's also live acts playing there daily that range from folk music to stand up comedy depending on the evening. يضاف الى ذلك هناك ايضا يعيش هناك أعمال اللعب اليومية التي تتراوح بين الموسيقى الشعبية للوقوف في الكوميديا اعتمادا على المساء.
