Beaches of the costa de Papagayo
Just 13 kilometers away from Fuerteventura or a short 30-minute ferry ride away is where you will find Lanzarore, the northernmost of the Canary Islands. Close to the tourist resort of Playa Blanca at southern most tip of Lanzarote is where lies the spectacular beauty of the coast of Papagayo’s beaches hidden between the mountains of the Ajaches Natural Park.
The Papagayo natural park is comprised of seven beaches and the fist you will reach is Playa Mujeres below
To explore further the coast you’ll have to negotiate your way around or over cliffs depending on the time of day or tide
Just after is where you will find smaller but more private beaches such as Caleton del Cobre seen here below
My personal favorite spot is Playa Caleton de San Marcial that lies just after. Although in order to reach it you’ll have to do a little extra exercise going up the hill then hike back down a little trail at it’s center
All this is well worth the effort if you ask me to experience having your private little beach cove all to yourself

My favorite place to stay in Lanzarote
After booking a last minute flight on my last trip to Lanzarote in 2007, I stumbled upon Villas Puerto Rubicon when most of the hotels and resorts on this part of the island were fully booked.
I stayed here a week and would thoroughly recommend booking of one of their villas if it’s within your budget, yes it costs a little more than a hotel but having with own private little garden and pool made the experience so much better.
They are very spacious, mine had a 200 sq.m/3 bedrooms for around 100 EUR a day and come equipped with all the mod cons. Location also great, just 500 meters from the bars and restaurants of the marina and about 3KM from the Coast of Papagayo.
